Link round-up 7

Here’s the 7th edition of my sporadic feature where I list the links that grabbed my attention this week. All pictures are from my Instagram @ppollyheath — please follow me if you post pretty, pretty pictures that I can be jealous of.

nomnomnom: my friend Misha’s food blog. He allegedly teaches adorable children in Japan, but I think he’s just spending his time becoming a master chef.

look @: the construction and completion of the Moskva Hotel. I tried to grab a room there this weekend, but one day before check in all I could find was the Presidential Suite. Baller, but will set you back about $1600 a night.

listen to: Far From Moscow, a site which showcases small musicians from Russia and the former Soviet Union. There’s some pretty interesting stuff.

peruse: this list of 10 must-read books for recent grads… Or for people like me who feel like they only graduated last week rather than THREE YEARS AGO. (I’m only 24, I’m not that old yet, am I?)

nomnomnom again: to finish off this food-heavy list, check out this recipe for a cheesy, heart-attackingly delicious dip.

The dip reminds me a bit of one we make at home with prepared tamales, enchilada sauce, corn, olives, and cheese. Alas, most of the ingredients to make such a thing do not exist here, and cheese is too precious a commodity to waste in such a manner. Thank god for the Russians, or we wouldn’t have it at all.
Related only tangentially, and probably only in mind: have you ever heard/seen the history of the soviet union arranged to the melody of Tetris? It’s… something. Exactly what, though, I’m not sure.

I weep for you. I don’t think I could live without access to cheese — it’s expensive here, but not outrageously so.

And that was ABSOLUTELY only connected in your mind, but I do love that video. It boggles the mind how some people put their free time to use.

I think it was the pixelated hammer-and-sickle ballerina and subsequent reference to music that did it. Video games + Soviet Union + music = this video, obviously.
